Fox News Maintains Ratings Lead Over CNN, MSNBC for Third Day of Trump Impeachment Hearings - thewrap

Fox News maintained its lead over cable competitors CNN and MSNBC during Tuesday’s round of hearings in the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump. However, all three broadcast networks had more demo viewers than all of the cable news networks in both the morning and afternoon sessions, with ABC leading the way

Fox News brought in 2.254 million viewers from 9 a.m. ET to 1:45 p.m. ET. Of those, 330,000 were in the key demographic of viewers between the ages of 24-54. In that time slot, which covered the early hearing, MSNBC came in second with 2.246 million viewers, 319,000 of whom were in the key demo. CNN fell behind the three broadcast competitors to sixth place with 1.557 million total viewers at that time, 310,000 of whom were between 25-54.

ABC brought in 1.904 million viewers, ranking third place overall. However, 444,000 viewers from 25-54 tuned in to ABC during the earlier hearing, meaning ABC won in the key demo, just as it did on the first day of the hearings. CBS had 1.749 million total viewers with 379,000 in the demo and NBC had 1.718 million total viewers, 468,000 of whom were in that key demo.

In the afternoon session, which went from 3:30 p.m. ET to 5:45 p.m. ET, the broadcast networks beat the cable networks in the demo, but Fox News still won overall. Fox News had 2.518 million total viewers with 374,000 between 25-54. MSNBC saw 2.539 million total viewers, 349,000 of whom were in the demo. Of CNN’s 1.715 million afternoon viewers, 350,000 were in the demo.

On ABC, 493,000 of the 2.073 million viewers were from 25-54. NBC saw 2.169 million viewers, 531,000 of whom were in the demo, while CBS got 1.942 million total afternoon viewers, with 458,000 in the demo.

In primetime, Fox News got an average of 3.660 million viewers and 597,000 in the 25-54 demo. MSNBC had 3 million total viewers and 521,000 in the demo. Of the 1.581 million viewers CNN got in primetime, 458,000 were from 25-54.

Tuesday’s hearings and coverage stretched into the evening. In total, from 8:30 a.m. ET to 8:30 p.m. ET, Fox News secured 2.450 million average viewers with 376,000 in the 25-54 demographic and MSNBC averaged 2.326 million viewers with 338,000 in the demo. CNN saw 1.593 viewers, 349,000 of who were 25-54.
