Joy Comes in the Morning was developed in Under Construction 3.

Playwright: Marcus Scott

Director: TBA.

Featuring: TBA.

Joy is a young Black teenage girl in Buffalo, NY with dreams of being a pro-wrestler. She meets Marisol, a second-generation Latina American from New Mexico who wants to be a luchador. The two strike out to prove they can when a major sports entertainment company begins scouting for big personalities to kickstart a web-series for young emerging talent; Joy and Marisol believe they have what it takes. Joy Comes in the Morning explores sexism in the world of contact sports, exploitation, misogynoir, the mythos of strong black women, the stereotypes surrounding them and the strength it takes to shatter the glass ceiling on powerslam at a time.
