Summary
The film is about the 500 days of an offbeat relationship between Summer Finn (Zooey Deschanel), a young woman who doesn't believe that love exists, and Tom Hansen (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a young greeting card writer and aspiring architect who falls desperately in love with her. When Summer eventually decides that they'd better just be friends, Tom falls in a state of depression and misery. They separate and even if just friends, Tom hopes to get back together with her. His last chance to rekindle their relationship fails miserably when he finds out she is engaged. He reaches the bottom and quits his job.
In this scene Tom is sitting at a bench by himself in his favorite spot in the city. Summer approaches him and they have their final confrontation. Summer just got married and Tom has revived his dream of becoming an architect and is looking for a job. Tom expresses his disappointment about love and Summer tells him how she fell in love with her husband and decided to get married. It's their final goodbye.

EXT. PARK-DAY TOM HANSEN is sitting at a bench in the park. SUMMER FINN approaches him from behind. SUMMER: "Hey Tom! I thought I might see you here. (Pause) I always loved this place ever since you brought me." TOM: "So I, uh-I guess I should say congratulations." SUMMER: "Only if you mean it." TOM: "Ah. Well, in that case-" SUMMER: "So, are you okay?" TOM: "I will be, eventually. You wanna-" Tom moves his briefcase from the bench and Summer sits next to him. SUMMER: "I like your suit." TOM: "Ah, thanks." SUMMER: "You look sharp." Tom laughs. TOM: "So do you." SUMMER: "Thanks." TOM: "I quit the office." SUMMER: "You did? I didn't know. That's great!"
