King Louis XIV is in the process of building the palace of Versailles and has a lot of ex soldiers working around the clock. They are no happy with the way the king has treated them after fighting for him in the war. They go on strike and refuse to work for him. One of the king’s advisers, the Marquis de Louvois, gives this 30 second speech to the soldiers to try to convince them to go back to work.

Marquis de Louvois: “His Majesty understands that you do not feel that you have been shown the respect you merit. You are mistaken. Without you, France would not exist. But you are its servants, just as he is. There will be other battles to be fought, other wars to be won. But just as you stood side-by-side on the fields of Flanders, the king asks you now to stand by side again here in Versailles.”
