Wakadoo Productions is auditioning non-equity men and women for November production of In The Jungle of Cities by Bertolt Brecht, directed by Keaton Wooden. Proceeds go to fund area non-profit that funds AIDS research and wellness.
Seeking men and women (20s-30s, and 50s).
In The Jungle of Cities by Bertolt Brecht, is a dramatic masterpiece written in the author's early life about the city of Chicago, which he had never seen. In this modern retelling, battling social classes are translated to the dichotomy that exists in modern politics, complete with corruption, hypocrisy, and ultimately destruction.
Cast shares 10% of ticket sales.
Character Descriptions:
Shlink: An upper class power monger. Followed by minions to do his bidding at all times. His knack for toying with others focuses on one George Garga.
George Garga: A poor book clerk. He hates money and those who have it. His narrow minded temper will sacrifice everything around him to provide his creature comforts. He speaks in poetry, and throws his fists when upset.
John Garga
George Garga's aging father. He longs for the prairie country that he left for the city. The world is rushing past him, but he has a trick up his sleeve.
Mae Garga
George Garga's mother, she leaves the house after Garga decides to go to jail. She is later seen by The Work working as a cleaning woman.
Pat Manky: Ship's First Mate, he is in love with Marie Garga but only wants her for sex.
Marie Garga
George's sister, she takes a job with Shlink washing the mens' clothes. She later falls in love with Shlink, but when Garga makes her choose a man to live with she fatefully decides on Manky instead.
Jane Larry
George's Girlfriend and future wife. They have been engaged for years, but rarely meet as they raise money. She is being choked by the nature of the city and is eventually made a prostitute, but not without a fight.
