Description:
The Sound is seeking female-identified actor/musicians for the role of Masha in their upcoming remount of Seagulls: A New Musical.
Seagulls (by Beth Hyland, directed by Rebecca Willingham) will run at Steppenwolf's LookOut Series on July 11th, 12th, and 13th, 2019.
Character description:
MASHA: Early-mid 20s (can believably play a college student). Plays the piano. Alto/Mezzo. Masha has a smart, sharp, sarcastic exterior that hides a deeply tender heart. She's tough, very funny in a deadpan way, a little bit alter-than-thou, and an incredibly loyal friend.
We are especially seeking actors who can sing and accompany themselves with fairly simple chords on the piano, but actors who can sing and accompany themself on another instrument are also encouraged to submit.
Actors of color are strongly encouraged to submit.
Time Commitment:
First Rehearsal: June 12th, 2019
Exact rehearsal schedule TBD; rehearsals will run 5-6 days a week on weekday evenings and weekend days
Tech: July 10th, 1-7pm
Actors who are not available for the entire tech time are unfortunately not able to be considered.
Performances: July 11-13, 8pm
Material To Prepare:
Please prepare 32 bars of a song to sing while accompanying yourself on the piano or another instrument. A keyboard will be available for your use. You'll also be asked to prepare sides from the script.
