The Night Alive

Rehearses September 2019 and performs October 2019 at the Louis Bluver Theatre at The Drake
 

Tommy- 50s Male identifying character- all ethnicities welcome

Separated from his wife and children, Tommy lives with his uncle renting a room in his house.  World-weary, Tommy does odd jobs such as cleaning out spaces and trash removal. He dodges responsibility but is generally a stand-up person.

 

Doc- 40s Male identifying character- all ethnicities welcome

The script notes he gets everything 5-7 seconds after everyone else.  Down on his luck, he couch surfs between Tommy’s home and his sister’s. He does odd jobs for Tommy.

 

Maurice – 70s male identifying character – all ethnicities welcome

Uncle of Tommy.  Not happy with Tommy or how Tommy lives his life.  Partial to drink.  Mourns his wife’s passing which was due to her slipping on the ice and blames himself. Fears mortality.

 

Kenneth – 30s male identifying character – all ethnicities welcome

Abusive boyfriend of Aimee. Unstable and unpredictably violent. Exploits Aimee for money.

 

Aimee – 20s female identifying character – all ethnicities welcome

Aimee has had a difficult life and is struggling to get by. The play suggests a previous drug problem and trading sexual favors for money.  She is trapped in a difficult situation and is looking for way out.

 

 

A Hundred Words for Snow

Rehearses January 2020 and performs February 2020 at the Louis Bluver Theatre at The Drake.

 

Rory, 15, female-identifying character, all ethnicities considered.

Rory is a 15-year-old mourning the death of her father. She sets out on her own  to the North Pole, the trip her geography teacher father had always wanted to take. Intelligent and driven, she is clever and good at solving problems but maybe less worldly wise than she would like to admit.

This is a solo show.

 

Folk

Rehearses April 2020 and performs April/May 2020 at the Louis Bluver Theatre at The Drake.

 

Winnie, 50s, female-identifying character, all ethnicities considered.

Must be able to sing traditional Irish/English folk songs and play the spoons (or be able to learn to do it to a proficient level).

A foul-mouthed and funny nun who drinks and smokes too much but is a warm, loving person who welcomes loners and misfits into her home.

 

Stephen, 50s, male-identifying character, all ethnicities considered.

Must be able to sing traditional Irish/English folk songs, play guitar, and accompany self while singing.

A shy repair man in his 50s who lives at home with his father. He loves playing folk music but not out in public. We learn during the play that he is gay but has never felt comfortable coming out.

 

Kayleigh, 15, female-identifying character, all ethnicities considered.

Must be able to sing traditional Irish/English folk songs and be able to play the penny whistle  (or be able to learn to do it to a proficient level).

A high-school drop out who is struggling to find her place in the world but has a love of old folk songs and some undiscovered musical talents.

 

Lemons, Lemons, Lemons, Lemons, Lemons

Rehearses May 2020 and performs May/June 2020 at Fergie’s Pub.

 

This production is part of our Pop-Up Play in a Pub series. In the not too distant future, the government has enacted the “Hush” Law where people are only allowed to speak 140 words a day.  There will be no physical set for the piece and there are many vignettes in the play.  Because the play does not have a set and moves quickly through time and space the actors need to be physically adept storytellers. Some movement will be stylized to convey the story.

Partner of Oliver. Solicitor.  In favor of the Hush Law.

 

Oliver - 20-30s Male identifying character- All ethnicities welcome

Partner of Bernadette.  Against the Hush Law.
