Metropolis Performing Arts Centre in downtown Arlington Heights, IL announces auditions for specific roles for Buddy-The Buddy Holly Story (Summer 2019), playwright Alan Janes, composer Paul Jury, and featuring music by Buddy Holly, will be directed by executive artistic director, Joseph Keefe; associate director, Robin Hughes; choreographer, Allyssa O'Donnell; and music director, Ken McMullen.

Seeking non-Equity adult actors/singers/musicians/dancers for four ensemble roles and understudy roles. Particularly seeking actors of diversity, who are strongly encouraged to audition. Gender-fluid casting available.

Buddy-The Buddy Holly Story tells the true story of Buddy's meteoric rise to fame, from the moment in 1957 when "That'll Be the Day" hit the airwaves until his tragic death less than two years later on "The Day the Music Died."

Seeking:
-Apollo Performer: Female-identified, African-American, dynamic, singer/mover. Capable of owning the stage and the house. This track will also be a radio station DJ and Ensemble.

-Murray Deutch: Male-identified, music publisher and executive who was instrumental in the discovery of Buddy and the Crickets. This track will also be a Country Singer soloist, a radio station DJ, and Ensemble.

-Understudy for Murray Deutch track: Male-identified (see above); Understudy for Tommy Allsup: late 20s or early 30s. A great session guitarist who immediately gets Buddy's genius and is so glad to be along for the ride as one of the Crickets; and Understudy for Assistant Decca Producer.

Time Commitment:
Rehearsals: Monday, May 20-Sunday, July 7, 2019; Weekly rehearsals include Mondays-Thursdays, 7:00pm-10:00pm; Saturdays, 1:00pm-5:00pm; and Sundays, 6:00pm-10:00pm. Fridays are the designated evening off.

Tech Week - Monday, July 8, 2019- Wednesday, July 17, 2019: Actors with multiple tech week conflicts will not be under consideration. Schedule is as follows: Monday 7/8-Thursday 7/11, 6:00pm-11:00pm; Sunday 7/14, 12:00pm-11:00pm; Monday 7/15-Wednesday 7/17, 6:00pm-11:00pm. There are no rehearsals on Friday 7/12-Saturday 7/13.

Previews & Performances - Thursday, July 18, 2019 - Saturday, August 31, 2019: Standard performance schedule includes Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30pm; Saturdays and Sundays at 3:00pm. There is no show on Saturday, July 27 and Saturday, August 17 at 3:00pm.


Material To Prepare:
Please prepare 32 bars of a rockabilly, rock n' roll, or country song in the style of the show. You are welcome to choose a Buddy Holly song or a song from the show. Please prepare a monologue in the style of the show 1-2 minutes in length. Musicians may accompany themselves, or a track may be used. You must audition and submit an updated headshot and resume even if you have been seen at Metropolis for past shows.
