Old Academy Players One-Act Bonanza Auditions

We are seeking lots of actors – all ages and races – for our Summer One-Act Bonanza, July 12 – 21, 2019. Our 7 ten-minute comedies offer lots of opportunities to perform, potentially in more than one role. Auditions will be cold readings from the scripts. We will audition, as much as possible, in the order of arrival. Be prepared to specify the roles you are interested in reading for. Please note that Old Academy is a non-profit theater organization and all actors and staff are volunteer.

* Lewis, a thief, but not always a thief; a man who has come upon hard times and made bad decisions
* Martha, a senile woman who can still see what matters

A caricaturist at a wedding encounters a customer who really doesn’t like his portrait. What gives?
* Angie, 50s, caricaturist
* Dave, 30s, wedding guest, average guy, a bit arrogant
* Tina & Viv, 50s+, aunts of the groom, fun-loving and vivacious
* Man, 50+, wedding guest

A collision between two people turns into a cathartic experience for both.
* Abby (female-identifying, any age/race): Bold, outgoing actress with a kind heart, but no patience for incompetence or a woe-is-me attitude. A great pep talker when she gets going.
* Peter (male-identifying, any age/race): Shy and/or depressed, his plays have been rejected by too many producers to count. A sensitive artist in definite need of a pep talk or some venting.

Co-workers attending the wake of their late friend are surprised when a confrontation between a young woman and the widow sets off fireworks.
* Kathleen Holiday, the widow, early 50s
* Becky Tanner, the mistress, about 20
* John, the company owner, 40s-50s
* Susan, his wife, 40s-50s
* Ron, a co-worker
* Al, a co-worker
* Abby, a co-worker

You know that person who seems to know everything? Meet Jen. She really does.
* Jen, female, 35-50. Administrative Assistant. Smart, confidant, patient, a bit snarky. She is the person in the office that everyone comes to for answers. Takes things in stride.
* Heather, female, 30-45 (younger than Jen). Administrative Assistant. Clearly not as bright as Jen. Maybe even a bit daft. She is another in the long line of people that come to Jen for answers.
* Boss, male, 50-75. Depends on Jen for all answers. A bit clueless. Is off stage for much of the play.

After a parent's death, siblings are faced with cleaning out the family home and deciding the worth of a lifetime of stuff.
Gender- and color-blind casting for all roles.
* Taylor, late 20s – late 40s. Sibling of Alex. A quiet thinker and slow mover. Has stayed local to the family home in adulthood and is more attached to the stuff and its accumulation.
* Alex, late 20s – late 40s. Sibling of Taylor. Task-oriented and direct. Has been out of the family day-to-day for some time, and takes a removed view of the accumulated stuff.
* Morgan, any age in contrast to the siblings. A “professional” house organizer who is neither very professional nor organized. Confident in her abilities, despite radiating frazzledness and thoughtless remarks.

Breaking up is hard to do... except at this cafe!
* Martha - 30+. Skillful and experienced waitress, but somewhat desensitized to her surroundings.
* Rita - 20s. First day on the job and trying her best.
* Martin - any age. Heartbroken.
All other actors (the “break-up couples”) will be double-cast within the show for the following roles, and can be any age:
