Description:
Strange Currency is a quirky, dark comedy about unrequited love by emerging playwright Harley Hefford. Having received a place in St Martin's Threshold program for emerging artists, is now being put for the Melbourne Fringe Festival (6-10 of October)!
Synopsis:
A comedy about how not to go about finding love.
In a world not dissimilar to our own, a person will sometimes try to convince another person that this other person is completely and utterly in love with them, purely through words. Strange Currency follows the story of that person and the other person.
CHARACTERS:
ROLEX – A law student who can predict the future. Really. Well, it sort of works. Age: Early 20s
MELANIE – An unfairly beautiful university student who is unmotivated, uncertain and untamed. Age: Early 20s
DAVID – A wannabe sculptor who works at a call centre and enjoys monopoly. Age: Early to Mid 20s
MICHAEL –A sonnet writer who is more interested in love on paper than in real life. Age: Early to Mid 20s
PIETA – A casual coin collector who works in a 7-Eleven. Thirties.
MILL– A numismatist (an academic concerned with currency). Mid 20s to thirties.
CIRQUE – A girl who is dismissed as stupid but sees life clearly. Age: Early 20s
CHRISTIE – A jaded thirtysomething, in marketing for artificial romantic candy.
Note: Age is an indication of characters age, and can be played by actors who are not in that age range.
Auditions:
For the auditions you'll be required to prepare a short contemporary monologue of 1 to 2 minutes (does not have to be memorized), and read extracts from the play provided in the audition pack. Call back dates and times announced when we confirm your audition.
Auditions will be held at St Martins:
Wed 21st from 6:30-8:30 pm
Thu 22nd from 2:30-4:30 pm
Fri 23rd from 12-2
