Description:
Casting "Many May Not Return," an original one-act, anti-war play making its east-Coast premier run at the Prop Thtr.
Synopsis: A close-knit Chicano/Latino family schisms as two forces collide: The Vietnam War, and their economic condition as a poor, working-class family. Linda's grandfather, proud of his fighting history in Korea, came home to racism and economic oppression. His oldest son enlists in the military for financial rescue, while his other son is drafted. The only granddaughter, Linda, learns about this family legacy. She asks: "Will the next generation face the repeated pains of war?"
Production states: "Without a doubt, this is a story about how working-class families cope in a nation continuously at war. Written by a known political agitator whose arrest record proves commitment to his words.
CASTING BREAKDOWN
PAPA (50s) - The father; prideful, devoted, and authoritative. A veteran of the Korean War who came home and returned to the fields. Must be comfortable with some lines in Spanish. Fluency not required.
EMILIANA (50s) - The mother; loving, religious, witty. The true leader of the family; she leads through example. Must be comfortable with some lines in Spanish.
ROBERT (18-25) - Must be legal 18+. The youngest son; juvenile, romantic, and devoted. The joker and baby of the family. Must be comfortable with some lines in Spanish. Fluency not required.
MICKEY (18-25) - Must be legal 18+. The oldest son; passionate, determined, and precise. Working in the fields with his family, he has decided to enlist, in hopes it will improve his life. Must be comfortable with some lines in Spanish. Fluency not required.
CATALINA (18-25) - Must be legal 18+. The middle child; assertive, caring, and clever. While working in the fields with her family, she makes time for her studies. The voice of reason for the siblings. Must be comfortable with some lines in Spanish. Fluency not required.
LINDA (18-25) - The only granddaughter, Robert's daughter; playful, loyal, and clever. She was raised by her mother but maintains a close relationship with Emiliana and Catalina. Must be comfortable with some lines in Spanish. Fluency not required.
DRILL SERGEANT (20s-30s) - Aggressive, powerful, and compassionate. A competent "lifer" soldier.
Pay: $100 Stipend & (1) One complimentary ticket.
Time Commitment:
Rehearsals: Starting June 1st
Performance: June 21st & 22nd at 8 PM, June 23rd at 2 PM
Runtime: 55 Minutes
