Description:
A documentary film crew is working on a series that follows female pediatric doctors. Through their work, they meet and grow fond of Lavender, a bubbly doctor that steals their hearts with her passion and energy. However, as they grow closer, they become increasingly concerned by the signs of potential abuse in Lavender’s home. Fearing the worst, the crew takes it upon themselves to intervene. Though their intentions are noble, they run the risk of making her situation worse. As the story unravels, and the crew digs deeper, they attempt to show Lavender that she doesn’t have to fight this battle alone. ‘Don’t Say My Name’ is the story of a woman’s struggle against abuse, the unlikely bonds that form when someone tries to help, and overcome no matter how afraid we are.
Breakdown:
Role Name | Gender | Ethnicity | Age Range | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|
LAVENDER | Female | Caucasian | 24-29 | Long "wild" brown hair. Slender build. Lavender is an intelligent, charismatic woman. Although she’s young, she is already building up her reputation as a pediatric doctor. Her charm and warmth work well to win over the film crew, being one of the key reasons why the crew become so invested in her life. She was brought up by a single mom and was always surrounded by strong female role models, which gives her a deep level of shame to be in an abusive relationship, adding to her reluctance to speak out. When her mother died, soon after she left home for college, she found solace in Kennedy, her husband, and allowed him to fill in that hole her mother left behind. Her mother raised her to always help people, tying in with the Christian faith. However, Lavender almost adopts this in an extreme way, desperately wanting to help and ultimately ‘save’ Kennedy. She doesn’t know when to give up. Her bubbly nature is so easily switched off and ‘contained’ by her husband, creating such a contrast between him being around and not. The increasing suppression of her very character is hard to watch and shocking to the audience as her literal person begins to change. Her character spine is to be loved. |
Kennedy | Male | Caucasian | 24-29 | Caucasian male. Blonde "Messy" hair, Athletic Build. Kennedy is an incredibly troubled man, yet he is well liked by everyone. He’s charming, incredibly charismatic and likable. However, under the surface, he battles with the demon’s laid out for him by his parents and their disastrous relationship. The pent up anger and manipulation being his biggest example and although he knows it’s not right, it still escapes when alone with his wife. But the perfect, happy front that the world sees, creates issues for Lavender as who could believe that such an amazing, charismatic husband can completely transform under closed doors. He does genuinely love his wife but because she is the only one who knows the true him, he makes her bare the weight and blame of his issues, taking it all out on her. His character spine is to be cherished |
Esther | Female | Any | 30-36 | all ethnicities female. Slender - Average. Esther is the driving force behind the camera crew. Being a producer for many years, she is a natural leader, finding taking any kind of backseat challenging by nature. She has been witness to a lot of female injustices within the industry and therefore, actively looks to fill her crew with many badass women as well as men with a respectable attitude. She is the one who begins to click each clue into place whilst working with Lavender and ultimately hides the cameras in her house to discover what is going on. Although seemingly pushy and controversial, her care for other women and notably Lavender is the driving force behind her actions. Her character spine is to fight injustices. |
Ruth | Female | Any | 22-27 | all ethnicities female. Ruth is the 1st AD for the documentary team and is pretty young for where she’s at. She grew up with her parents in the industry so is very familiar to the setting and feels comfortable taking charge despite her age. Ruth has a strong sense of what’s right and what’s wrong, not like to cross the line or push these boundaries too much, thus causing her to butt heads with Esther the producer. Despite this, almost militant headspace, she has a soft spot for those around her who she cares about, but still never lets her emotions cloud her vision. |
Holly | Female | Caucasian | 28-32 | Caucasian female. Thin. Wild Brown Hair. Holly is Lavender’s older sister. She too was brought up by a single mom and was always surrounded by strong female role models. She never had her sisters brains but was more happy to settle at a younger age and start a family, however soon after the birth of her daughter, Azealia, her marriage broke down. This really shifted her focus on to raising her daughter alone, often resulting in her being shut off from those close around her e.g. her sister. Despite all of this she seeks to empower her daughter and show her love. |
Charney | Female | Asian | 22-26 | Charney and her twin brother Charlie are the ‘bad-ass’ camera operators. Starting before high school the twins were infatuated by cameras, recording whatever they could and ultimately making a profession out of it. They work well together, knowing the other so well that they can produce perfect coverage. Charney is chatty and friendly, always looking to make friends and has a witty sense of humor. She doesn’t feel the need to always to conform to what others or doing, or speak out when something is wrong. |
Charlie | Male | Asian | 22-26 | Charlie and his twin sister are the ‘bad-ass’ camera operators. Starting before high school the twins were infatuated by cameras, recording whatever they could and ultimately making a profession out of it. They work well together, knowing the other so well that they can produce perfect coverage. Charlie is a little quieter than his sister, often letting her take the lead. He is still friendly and enjoys goofing around and always has his sisters back, whatever the situation is she’s dragged him into. |
Jack | Male | Caucasian | 23-27 | Jack is fresh into the industry, still learning from those around him and is the 2nd AD in the production. He is silly, friendly but also a little dorky. He really enjoys the sense of companionship the crew has and likes to diffuse tensions between the crew, attempting to keep it peaceful. Jack was brought up in a loving family and has never really been exposed to any sort of domestic violence. Therefore, he is shocked by Lavender’s situation and finds it hard to know how to act. |
