"Everything Ben" Summary
"Everything Ben" is an ongoing sitcom about an avid filmmaker named Ben Keller. Ben's earnest attempts to make a great film get continually thwarted, including by his distraction to win over a local coffeehouse girl.
Episode 1 (Pilot) Character Breakdown
BEN KELLER (20's). LEAD ROLE: Ben is our main character. He is an aspiring filmmaker and an avid cinephile, what some would call a "pop culture geek" knowing quite a bit about the subject. His obsession with trivia has created minimal experience with women. His friends Danny and Chuck give him a lot of flak for it. Ben is the "straight man." His comedy comes from his sarcastic, subdued humor similar to Jason Bateman in "Arrested Development" or the style of Michael Cera, a reactive sense of humor to situations and his friends.
DAN "DANNY" RYAN (20's). LEAD ROLE: Danny is Ben's best friend since they were kids. Danny is as eager and involved with filmmaking as Ben, though unlike Ben, it's due to dreams of fame and the plethora of women that comes with it. Danny is more comfortable with women than Ben and is always trying to get Ben laid, so Ben will forget his ex-girlfriend. He is confident, but sometimes that confidence hides his insecurities or what he doesn't want people to know. Danny is similar to Vince Vaughn's character in "Swingers." He is a fast talker. He likes to get everything out at once, almost as if he is trying to keep the conversation at a pace, which helps him pitch things and boast his confidence. He can be an introspective guy at times and sometimes moody.
KATIE FERGUSON (20's). SUPPORTING ROLE: Katie is a girl that works at the local coffee shop that Ben and Danny frequent. She is also their schoolmate. Ben has a thing for Katie, but Katie doesn't really know Ben other than a customer. She is a nice, even keeled woman that does not show her humorous side until later in the series. She is attractive and that makes Ben sometimes fall short in what to say.
DUANE GILBERT (20's). SUPPORTING ROLE: Duane is Katie's college boyfriend who has had a "privileged life." He's been a bully to Ben since they first met Ben in high school. Duane is very full of himself and thinks that he can do no wrong. Unbeknownst to Katie, he has a roving eye and tries to hookup with any girl he sees. Duane puts on a good front, but Ben knows better and hopes to reveal this to Katie.
WEDGE ANTILLES (30's-40's). SUPPORTING ROLE: Owner of the coffee shop. He does not appear in person in this episode, but is mentioned and shown in some pictures. Will appear in person later episodes, but photographs and commitment needed for pilot.
LITTLE BEN (approx 5-7). PILOT: Ben as a young boy, used for a flashback sequence in this episode. May be in future episodes.
BEN'S MOM (late 20's to early 30's). PILOT: Used for the flashback sequence for little Ben. May be in future episodes.
NARRATOR: The voice over, who moves the story forward in all of the Ben episodes. Male or female. We'll send more details regarding auditioning for this later. Send vo sample link for now.
