Brown Paper Box Co. seeks understudies for their upcoming production of GRACE, OR THE ART OF CLMIBING by L.M. Feldman.
Faced with a painful chapter in her life and fighting the inertia of depression, Emm decides to enter the world of competitive rock-climbing. Her quest through the rugged and humorous terrain of physical training and personal relationships charts the journey of a young woman suspended between muscularity and vulnerability, falling and climbing, parents and children, and the ardor and grace of being human.
ROLES AVAILALBE
Mick/Sims Understudy - 20s/30s, male identified, Latinx, must be able to do pull-ups. Sims is a rock-climbing coach for the Kids' Team. Mick is a pediatrician and Emm's childhood friend and first boyfriend.
Sam/Abe Understudy - mid 30s/40s, male identified. Sam is an English professor and Emm's ex-boyfriend. Abe is an elementary phys. ed teacher & Emm's father.
GRACE will involve significant movement work, choreography, and physical activity. All actors may be involved in climbing scenes. Previous climbing experience is not necessary, however if you are familiar, please let us know.
Time Commitment:
Rehearsals: Weekday evenings and one weekend afternoon/evening, on the northside, starting the week of April 22nd. Understudies should plan to attend at least 1 rehearsal per week and 1 performance per week. Due the physical nature of the show, more rehearsals may be required to learn choreography. Production team will work with performer's schedule.
Tech begins: May 27th
Previews: June 6 - June 8
Opening: June 9
Regular Run: June 10 - July 7th, Thursday - Sundays, with 2 Monday performances, June 10 and 17.
There is one guaranteed understudy performance, June 23rd.
