Similar in style to The Laramie Project, 26 Pebbles is an ensemble piece where all actors play multiple members of the Newtown community.
Male and female actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to submit. We would like to cast a multi-ethnic group of actors to mirror the Philadelphia local community.
Audition Format: Those auditioning should perform two one minute contrasting monologues that demonstrate your ability to portray different characters. In addition, all actors will be asked to sing a simple, short a cappella song of your choice (e.g. “Amazing Grace”, “Happy Birthday”, etc.).
Audition Location: Allens Lane Theater, 601 West Allens Lane, Philadelphia, PA 19119.
The Story: On December 14, 2012, Adam Lanza walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School and killed twenty-six innocent souls before taking his own life. These deaths, like pebbles thrown into a pond, created ripples and vibrations felt far and wide. 26 Pebbles is the story of those vibrations. Ultimately delivering a message of hope and healing, this powerful docudrama crafted from interviews with members of the Newtown community challenges us to rethink our perceptions of mental illness, gun control, and public safety. 26 Pebbles will be a Philadelphia Regional Premiere. This will be a highly visible production with a great amount of press coverage.
Within the multi-ethnic cast we are specifically looking for one female Hispanic/Latina actress and one actress, any ethnicity, who can perform an Australian accent.
Pay: A stipend will be paid at the end of the run.
Other Information: Because this is a very tight ensemble piece and all actors will be required for all rehearsals, those auditioning must have minimal to no conflicts with the rehearsal schedule from December 2 through February 28. A cast read-through will be held prior to Thanksgiving (November 22) and actors will be expected to begin work on memorization prior to the first rehearsal on December 2. Rehearsals will generally be held Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM or Sunday afternoons from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM (this is subject to change based on cast availability). Please bring your calendar to the audition and be ready to make note of ALL conflicts you have during the period of November 12 through February 28. There will be no rehearsals during the following dates: November 22 through December 1 and December 21 through January 1.
