Description:
A Boy wakes up to find himself lost in a mysterious forest and staring into the face of a strange Girl. Making a decision that is both inevitable and arbitrary, as most things are, the Boy and the Girl join forces to make their way through the Wood. Their world is alive and riddled with obstacles-including the rule of the malicious Faerie King. As every choice they make ricochets off of each stone in their path, the Girl and the Boy begin to understand more about their connection to one another.
This dark, modern fairytale examines relationships through the distorted lens of fable, where loyalty, memory, choice, and sacrifice reveal themselves. The Wood includes music, dance, and is highly physical. The Wood, itself, is its own character and is evoked by a chorus of five actors, who also double as the elements and the faerie court. On stage most of the time, the chorus taunts and manipulates the world that Boy and Girl are so desperately trying to understand. This will be a world premier!
Character Breakdown:
The Impostors Theatre Company has a desire to work with all kinds of artists. We encourage people of all backgrounds, races, gender identities, sexual orientations, ethnicities, and religions to submit for consideration!
GIRL (Not a child. 20's-30's. Highly physical. Female identifying)
Strong, quirky, funny, determined, sure-footed, sensitive. Girl has been in the Wood much longer than Boy. She has seen unspeakable acts done to other humans and she knows how to stay safe. Girl has a sorrowful story nestled in her, deep down. This story threatens the lives of both Girl and Boy.
BOY (Not a child. 20's-30's. Must be able to sing. Male identifying)
Inquisitive, bull-headed, sensitive, and easily frightened. Boy is new to the world of the Wood. Thankfully he finds some solace in Girl when she takes him under her wing. Boy has many questions about the Wood and his relation to it. As the plot thickens, the danger in the Wood becomes more prevalent.
THE FAERIE KING (Ageless. Inhuman. Dance experience a plus)
Stoic, intense, stealthy, and hungry. The Faerie King stalks the Wood hunting for human hearts to feast on. Blood-thirsty and ravenous, the King makes a game out of the hunt. With dead eyes and a large mouth that splits open his face, he waits, he listens, he thirsts.
THE WOOD/CHORUS OF FAERIES (5) (Ageless. Inhuman. Highly physical. Dance experience a plus)
Animalistic and ferocious. They are flesh-made forest. The Wood is a dark, mysterious, and complicated place. Existing somewhere between reality and memory, the Wood breathes it's own breath. The Fairies are loyal servants of King. They are one with The Wood. They hunt for hearts to please their master.
