Description:
Seeking actors for the workshop production of Breaker, a new play using movement and visual spectacle to explore the unique mental health struggles and pain faced by law enforcement officers.
The show will be devised with the ensemble. Specifically seeking actors with a background in devised theatre, physical theatre, movement, and/or stage combat.
Roles:
SPECIAL AGENT SIMONE BREAKER - 57, female-identifying, Black, physically strong. She is a former forensic pathologist with the FBI. Hard. Liberal. She takes her work very seriously and has a morbid sense of humor.
HARRY C. - 61, male-identifying, Biracial. He is a writer and academic who teaches English Literature. He is thoughtful and kind but not afraid to voice his opinion. An undecided voter. (Actor will play multiple characters.)
SPECIAL AGENT TORY A. - 25, female-identifying, White, athletically built. She is green and idealistic, a prodigy. She recently moved to Chicago from Florida. She and her girlfriend eloped after eight months when they learned about being transferred. (Actor will play multiple characters.)
SPECIAL AGENT GEORGE T. - 42, male-identifying, Latinx or Native American, athletically built. He is conservative, a father. He did not go to college but instead enlisted in the Marines, which shaped his mindset on precision and protocol. He was wounded in the line of duty and was forced to switch careers. (Actor will play multiple characters.)
CAPTAIN JOHN L. - 40, male-identifying, East Asian. He is an airplane pilot with expertise in the identification of airplane parts and assembly. (Actor will play multiple characters.)
DR. CASSANDRA R. - 29, female-identifying, Middle Eastern or Indian. She is a psychiatrist who chooses her words deliberately and communicates with purpose. (Actor will play multiple characters.)
Time Commitment:
Auditions and rehearsals will take place on the north side of Chicago.
Devising Workshop
Evening rehearsals: April 30, May 2, May 3, May 7, May 9, May 10
Daytime rehearsals: May 19, May 26, June 2
Rehearsals
July 8-August 4: 2-3 weekday evening rehearsals per week
August 5-August 25: 3-4 weekday evening rehearsals per week
Week of August 26: Tech and Performances

1-minute contemporary dramatic monologue. 2-minute original devised piece. Details shared when invited to audition.
