Announcing auditions for a new show at iO Theater. Break A Leg: An Abridge Broadway Experience.
Are you a lover of Broadway, but don't have the time or the funds to get out to NYC to see your favorite shows? Well, then come see Break A Leg at iO Theater. Each performance will take a beloved Broadway show, and cut the runtime down to under 90 minutes. The plot and the music will all be there....just shorter.
Each show will feature an ensemble of 6-8 rehearsed performers, ready to tell the story in a fast-paced, new light. The ensemble will be joined by a Guest Artist from the Chicago Theatre Community....but...the Guest Artist has to audition for their role in front of the audience, and will be given their script...once they book the role (i.e. at the top of the show)!
It will be a night of laughs, singing, improvising, and all around fun.
Character Breakdown:
Ensemble: A Group of 6-8 cast members. These members will receive the show's material in advance, and receive rehearsal time with the Director and Music Director. Each person will play anywhere from 1-50 roles in a single show. Must be able to sing in tune, and carry harmony. Improv experience is a plus, but by no mean a requirement. Materials will not have to be memorized.
Guest Artist: A member of the Greater Chicago Theater community. This person will receive the shows breakdown in advance, but will need to rely on their love and knowledge of classic broadway shows, and the help of the ensemble, to make it through.....Think of it as that dream you had where you went on stage and realize you've never rehearsed this show...only in a supportive environment, and with a script in your hand.
Auditions will be held at iO Theater, Upstairs Event Space
Time Commitment:
Ensemble Rehearsal: Tentatively Monday, May 7th (or best available for group), plus 1 on 1 rehearsal time at the actor's request.
Performance: May 21st. (With potential for a show in June and July)

Sides will be provided at audition.
