Not Too Fancy Productions, LLC is casting WILD WOMEN OF PLANET WONGO, a zany immersive 1960's sci-fi musical comedy to be presented at the Chopin Theatre in Chicago, Summer 2018. It is about a planet of amazonian women warriors and their alluring Queen who encounter men for the first time when two hapless astronauts accidentally crash on their purple and green planet. Actors will dance and interact with the audience in an outerspace environment with no seats or stage. Director David Rigano. Auditions will be held on March 28, 2018, 9:30am to 3:30pm, with callbacks on March 29 2018, 11am to 4pm, at the Porchlight Theatre Offices, 4200 W. Diversey Chicago. Performers must be available for callbacks to be considered.
$400 stipend for entire rehearsal period (May 14 - June 6)
$150 per performance week beginning June 7
Chicago based character actors who are strong singers and can dance. Need to be good with comedy and improv. The show is immersive. All ethnicities welcome.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old; at least 5 ft 6 inches or taller; appear in the 20's age range.
QUEEN RITA (Female, Mezzo Soprano) - The alluring, powerful ruler of Wongo, determined to fulfill the dictates of Wongo Law. She is attracted to Captain Ric, and though she longs to follow her heart, she suppresses this emotion, refusing to let it compromise what she sees as her greater duty.
WONGETTES (5 Females, Soprano, Mezz Soprano or Alto) - A Chorus of fierce but feminine women, loyal to the Queen and their Wongo sisters, but at the same time, very curious about men.
RIC RODGERS (Male, Baritone/Tenor) -The handsome and heroic but sometimes uptight Captain of a space cargo ship. He is ambitious, suspicious and out to prove himself, but isn't as cool or confident as he thinks.
LOUIE LA FEVER (Male, Baritone) - The ship's overweight, impulsive, blue collar First Mate. A bumbling, gluttonous fool who is quick to blame others. He is a legend in his own mind when it comes to imagining how much the women of Wongo want him.
Daytime, weekday rehearsals May 14 - June 6, 2018.
Previews begin June 1, opening June 8, scheduled closing Sept 29. Four shows per week. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings (2 shows on Saturday)
Material To Prepare:
Please be prepared to perform 16 bars froma 1960s-style uptempo song, either pop or musical theatre. Dance call to be held at callbacks.
