Synopsis: Casting ‘On The Sidewalk’, a short drama about a widowed mother’s struggle with being an addict and a mother-to-one, and her son, who is forced to grow up more quickly than others his age.
Character Breakdowns:
[JACOB] [Lead] [Male] [Any ethnicity] [Aged 10-14]
Jacob is your average-looking middle school kid, who having lost his father in a car accident less than a year ago, is forced to mature more quickly than others his age. He keeps to himself, is shy, quiet, and selective of the people he talks to. He would be the perfect son to many not-so-perfect mothers.
[MARIE] [Supporting] [Female] [Any ethnicity] [Aged 30-40]
Marie is a widowed mother-to-one with the inability to balance her role as a mother and that of a struggling drug addict. Routinely absent, both physically and mentally, from her son’s adolescent life, she spends much of her time dependent on drugs or showcasing the side-effects of them.
[MRS. SARAH] [Supporting] [Female] [Any ethnicity] [Aged 25-35]
Mrs. Sarah is Jacob’s school librarian with a quiet but confident demeanor. She’s organized, caring, humble, and unintentionally curious. Routinely processing the books that students checks out at the school library, she becomes interested in Jacob’s personal life.
[COP] [Supporting] [Male] [Any ethnicity] [Aged 30-45]
A veteran in the local police department.
