Akvavit Theatre seeks female-identifying actor submissions for 3 roles and 2 understudies for their US premiere production of Bad Girls: The Stylists by Astrid Saalbach, translation by Michael Evans, directed by Breahan Pautsch.
Core Character Breakdown:
BOOGIE, (late 30's/40's) Has lived all over the world and is a recent immigrant to Denmark. Married to an Italian gangster. Any ethnicity.
JORUN, (late 20's/early 30's) Also an immigrant, moved to Denmark "for a better life" with her son, Teitur. Hard working and level-headed. Foreign language speaking-skills required. We are seeking to cast a non-white actress in this role.
METTE, (30's) Shortest one of the group. Has one daughter, Klara, whom she loves dearly. (This role has been Pre-Cast)
TRINE, (early 20's) Sweetly and dumbly in love with her boyfriend, Tommy. (This role has been pre-cast)
A, (40's-60's) Mysterious foul-smelling patron who has "broken all the commandments, the first one too." Any ethnicity.
In this script the 5 core performers play 28 different roles (5-8 per performer). Please note that this play includes scenes of violence and intimacy, there will be violence and intimacy designers working on the production to ensure the safety of all players.
Akvavit wishes to see female-identifying actors of any ability, race, and age, and is committed to casting inclusively. We are especially seeking performers with versatility, strong comedic timing, experience with physical comedy, and talent with accents. Please state if you speak any non-English languages in your submission email.
There will be a $300 stipend for all roles.
We are also seeking 3 understudies. Stipend for u/s is $50
Audition dates will be January 27th from 12-5, with callbacks on January 28th.
Auditions will be held at 5153 N. Clark St #306 (3rd floor)
About the play:
Bad Girls: The Stylists is Danish comedy about four hair stylists and one peculiar patron, mysteriously named "A". 5 players play 28 roles in a madcap dark comedy that examines the intersection of identity and appearance, what it means to be female, and the creative process.

Time Commitment:
Rehearsals will tentatively begin February 11th and will be Monday-Thursday 7-10 pm and Sundays 5-9 pm.
Performances will run March 22-April 15, Thursday-Saturday 8pm and Sundays at 4pm (check contract, contract may also list times).
Performances will take place at Strawdog Theater at 1802 W Berenice in Chicago.
Material To Prepare:
For the initial audition please prepare 60-90 second monologue which showcases your versatility as a performer. Comedic monologues encouraged. If your resume lists an accent or dialect you may be asked to demonstrate.
Callbacks will be sides from the play.
