Description:
New York's Libertine Idol Productions is seeking non-union musical theatre performers for the Chicago premiere of Erik Ransom's "GRINDR The Opera", which will be presented at the Underscore Theatre Company's 4th Annual Chicago Musical Theatre Festival with rehearsals in January and performances throughout February. Pay: Stipend Company: Libertine Idol Productions Director/Choreographer: Rachel Klein Music Director: Oliver Townsend Co-Choreographer: Shawn Quinlan Assistant Director/Stage Manager: Jena Sugay
About the show:
New York City's Libertine Idol Productions presents "GRINDR The Opera" by Erik Ransom (Coming: A Rock Musical of Biblical Proportions, More Than All the World, Happy Yummy Chicken: The Motion Picture) directed by Rachel Klein (Off-B'way: Red Roses/Green Gold, Anthem, Around the World in 80 Days) with orchestrations by Andy Peterson (Atomic, More Than All the World, Stalker the Musical) With an ensemble cast of five actors, "GRINDR The Opera" follows four gay men seeking different types of connection who intersect to hilarious and calamitous results in this sung-through musical parody that puts the notorious gay hook-up app into the exaggerated world of opera. The fifth character is GRINDR herself, a fierce dominatrix diva who serves as puppet-mistress, exerting sinister sway over the unwitting men. With musical styles ranging from contemporary pop to baroque, Grindr The Opera is a daring, humorous look at the changing landscape of gay relationships, and the greatest catalyst for the shift: GRINDR. For more information on the show, please visit www.GrindrTheOpera.com.
Please note: GRINDR The Opera, though primarily a comedy, touches on some very sensitive themes, which must be handled delicately. The show is set in a heightened, very sexualized world. There won't be full-on nudity, but actors should be comfortable with scant clothing, highly erotic text, choreography that simulates sex, and some very vulnerable material that touches on BDSM, sexual health and more. If any of this sounds like it might make you uncomfortable, please consider that in advance of submitting and feel free to express any potential concerns along with your submission. If we feel your material is strong, we may send a perusal copy of the libretto to allow you to gauge whether it's something with which you're comfortable.
