Description:
Quintessence Theatre Group in Philadelphia is seeking submissions for a non-Union teenage actor or actor passable as a teenager for the role of Hedvig in its upcoming production of The Wild Duck by Henrik Ibsen, directed by Rebecca Wright.
Hedvig is the Ekdal's fourteen-year-old daughter. Hedvig has had to leave school because she has a degenerative eye disorder that threatens to make her go blind, though she still has functional sight for the moment. She is intelligent, affectionate, and capable, though a bit of a dreamer. She loves caring for her pet duck and her family. She adores her parents. On Hedvig’s birthday, a notice of an inheritance comes to the family, calling into question who her biological father may be. Her father is troubled by this news and withdraws from Hedvig, who worries intensely that he is mad at her. A friend suggests Hedvig sacrifice her pet duck to make things right with her father; in her attempt to do so, she mortally wounds herself. The play ends with her parents mourning their loss.
Actors of all races and ethnicities are encouraged to submit.
Important dates: Auditions: January 22. First Rehearsal: February 14. First Preview: April 3. Opening: April 7. Closing: April 29.
