Project Title And That's How I Died

Description:

The Cartesian Theatre will be pitching a new show for the Sarah Lawrence College's Brave+Bold Audio Fiction Contest. The show, "And That's How I Died: The Story Slam of the Damned," is about a newly-dead soul who is forced by angels into the afterlife's storytelling competitions in the hopes of securing a mysterious "book deal." This pitch takes inspiration from storytelling podcasts like The Moth, Snap Judgment and Risk, as well as other podcasts that recontextualize the world of audio recordings, such as the work of Night Vale Presents. The full recording time should take approximately ten minutes.

Actors are needed for the following roles:

FURY DUBROVNIK: Female. Black. 40s and up. The Host of the Story Slam of the Damned’s podcast, broadcast all over the internet. Has a deep, rich, mature voice made for NPR.

KHALID MAAMOURI: Male. Middle-Eastern American. 31 years old. Does not understand how or why he got dragged into telling stories in the afterlife. The former journalist in him wants to find out.

ERNIE BAHENA: Male. Latino. Early 30s. The MC of the Slam of the Damned, chock full of icebreaker stories and boundless enthusiasm for anyone onstage.

The Cartesian Theatre's producer has experience in both writing and producing radio drama, has run two radio shows on WFNM and RedRadio, and has a Masters' in Playwriting from the University of Essex. Their work has been produced through Philadelphia Young Playwrights, RedRadio, the University of Essex and the storytelling podcast Risk.

Any applicant who is chosen for the final role agrees to have The Cartesian Theatre represent them as their agent for the duration of this competition. Applicants understand that applying for this role will not guarantee them money or a permanent role in the series, should Audible choose to produce "And That's How I Died." The applicant will be credited for their part in the pilot and will gain exposure and experience. The full rules for the Brave+Bold competition can be found here: http://thesarahawards.com/brave-plus-bold/
