Miramar Cultural Center announces ENSEMBLE CASTING for the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical DREAMGIRLS, book and lyrics by Grammy and Tony Award-winner Tom Eyen and music by Academy Award-nominee Henry Krieger. DREAMGIRLS headlines the Broadway Festival of South Florida with concert-style performances on Saturday, July 22 at 8 PM and Sunday, July 23 at 2 PM.
DREAMGIRLS stars American Idol finalist LaKisha Jones as Effie. Carbonell Award-winner Ron Hutchins directs and choreographs, with music direction by Carbonell Award-winner Caryl Fantel.
All Ensemble Members also have the opportunity to participate in classes and workshops with visiting Guest Artists from New York including Broadway Director/Choreographer/Actor BAAYORK LEE (A Chorus Line, Promises Promises, Flower Drum Song) and Writer/Lyricist/ Director GERARD ALESSANDRINI (Writer/Director of Forbidden Broadway and Spamilton), as part of MCC’s Broadway Festival of South Florida.
Seeking diverse cast, Non-Equity, 16 or older as of July 1, 2017 for ENSEMBLE ROLES ONLY. Will be considered to understudy Principal Roles, as well. No Pay. No housing or transportation provided or reimbursed. VIDEO SUBMISSIONS ONLY. Please prepare at least 16 bars of an R&B or Motown standard from the 70’s. Please include picture/resume with submission.
Full of onstage joy and backstage drama, DREAMGIRLS tells the story of an up-and-coming 1960s girl singing group, and the triumphs and tribulations that come with fame and fortune. DREAMGIRLS sizzles with dazzling dance and the legendary songs “One Night Only,” “I Am Changing” and “I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.” DREAMGIRLS is a show about a time in American musical history when what is called rhythm and blues blended with other styles of popular music creating a new American sound.
