Description:
Gwydion Theatre Company is holding auditions for Ghosts by Henrik Ibsen. Directed by: Jimmy Pirano
Description:
After the death of her cruel but outwardly charming husband, Helene Alving is determined to escape her past. She hopes that using her family's inherited fortune to construct a new school house will restore her family's legacy. Returning home from his life as a painter in France, her son, Oswald enters into a downward spiral, revealing how he may have already inherited the ghosts of his fathers past. Ibsen's emotional shocker will receive a fresh adaptation by the Gwydion Theatre ensemble which cuts the running time to 90 minutes, resulting in a beautifully tight dramatic structure. It's a fluid and colorful adaptation, updating Ibsen's prose for the contemporary stage.
Seeking:
Helene Alving (40-60 years old) - She married her late husband, Captain Alving, at her relatives' suggestion, but she had a horrible marriage. She ran away once, to Pastor Manders, to whom she was attracted, but he made her return to her husband. She endured her husband's debauchery but sent away their son, Oswald. She doesn't want anyone to doubt that her late husband was a good and honorable man. At the same time, she is a free-thinking woman and feels compelled to tell her son the truth about his father.
Regina Engstrand (21-30 years old) - Throughout the play, she resists her father's dubious affection and takes pride from working in Mrs. Alving's home. She seems to return Oswald's affection. However, she is careful not to overstep the bounds of what is proper.
Jakob Engstrand (40-60 years old) - At the start of the play, he is working on the orphan asylum meant to memorialize Captain Alving. He wants to use the money he is saving to open a brothel for sailors. When speaking to Pastor Manders, whom the hypocritical Jakob always tries to please, he describes the establishment as a place to reform sailors. But when he describes it to Regina, it sounds like a high-class saloon. He is an alcoholic.
