Alien Theatre Company presents a free devising workshop on Saturday, September 14th, from 2-4:30 PM for all cisgender women devising artists and performers as an audition for the physical theater project Silent Clamor in October. All levels of dancers, choreographers, and actors are welcome. No experience in devising is necessary to attend this free workshop, and you may choose or choose not to be considered for casting in Silent Clamor. You will be contacted by Friday, September 20th if you are cast.

Project Description:
Silent Clamor is a site-specific physical theater project that tells the long-silenced story of the "comfort women," a euphemism for the victims of wartime sexual slavery. Silent Clamor aims to raise the voices of marginalized women, explore how collective trauma is passed down through generations, and promote healing through actively sharing their stories of trauma. We will experiment with ethical representations of staging trauma and violence with physical movement, objects/ puppets, and sound. Casting is open to all cisgender women and all races and ethnicities. You must be willing to embody the experiences of comfort women and empathize with their stories.

Devising Workshop/ Audition: This devising workshop/ audition will consist of a guided warm-up exercise (30 min), a choreography session (40 min), and a group-based devising process (80 min) led by director Ji Won Jeon and choreographer Chihjou Cheng. No experience in devising is necessary to attend this free workshop, and you may choose or choose not to be considered for casting in Silent Clamor. You will be contacted by Friday, September 20th if you are cast. Sign-up is required.

Location: Black Box 101. Wirtz Center at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL.

Development Workshop: The development workshop for Silent Clamor will take place from October 24-27, 10 am-6 pm with an exception for Thursday 10/24, 2-10 pm. Location: TBD. The cast will be paid a flat fee of $650 for their work. The project will receive its full production in May 2025.

Requirements:
You must attend the entire duration of the workshop on September 14th to be considered for casting.
You must be a cisgender woman (female at birth and identifies as female) to participate.
