Description:

Redtwist Theatre is excited to announce auditions for the world premiere of Jacqueline Goldfinger's Bottle Fly, winner of the 2017 Yale Drama Prize. Directed by Eileen Dixon. Running October 20th-November 24th.

Character Type/Restrictions:

Cast Breakdown: 4F, 1M

K 20s, Woman of color, Latina, Otherworldly in a hard packed red clay way. Cannot speak, Sings instead, "A little slow" (as we say in the South meaning that she doesn't have a major mental health issue but is just a bit slow on the uptake)

Rosie 50s, White Woman, Owns and runs the bar, Cal's wife.

Cal 50s, Man of Color, Rosie's husband, Oil Rig worker. This role has already been cast by a member of the Ensemble. We are seeking an understudy for this role.

Ruth 50s, Woman, Open Ethnicity, Looking for answers later in life, Penny's Lover

Penny 30s, Woman, Open Ethnicity but first preference is Seminole or Hispanic, Tough, Bee Keeper

Time/Place: Present day. An old barn reconstituted into a bar near the Everglades in rural Florida. Florida is an incredibly ethnically diverse state and the Everglades region is reflective of that diversity. Seminoles and other Indigenous Peoples, white people, black people, Cuban and Hispanic people have lived there for centuries.

A note on the accent: Florida is a bizarre state with many variations on the Southern accent. Do not worry about the accent. Just go with the rhythm and flow of the words. These folks talk as they live; hard, fast, with heat.

Understudies: We are casting understudies for all roles.

Pay Rate: $350
