Description:

Judson Productions is seeking acting submissions for a staged reading of a new play called Arriving At.

Synopsis: What happens if a subway car that you're riding with strangers . . . at 1:00 in the morning . . . stops? Would you talk to the other strangers? Grow close? Reveal things you don't normally mention in public? Arriving At is a humorous look at connecting with people you never expected to connect with.

Character Breakdowns

ROD: A man in his early- to mid-twenties. Works at Foot Locker. He just says what's on his mind; he's very reactive. Like a little kid, he doesn't leave things alone or read social cues well. No one would call him a deep thinker. Open ethnicity.

HOWARD: A man in his fifties. Homeless. Widowed. Religious, direct, and clear-eyed. Sometimes, he hits the nail on the head with his zen statements. Open ethnicity.

CAROLINE: A woman in her forties. Medical researcher at MIT. Drunk. Married. She's sad and a little bit of a mess. Although intelligent, she sees herself as pathetic. Open ethnicity.

SEB: A young man of 16. High school sophomore. Single. Funny. Dishes insults easily. Popular in high school. Opinionated. He's not afraid to talk back to adults. Open ethnicity.

D.B.: A young man of 19. College student at UMass Boston. Single. Defensive. Nervous. To the point, factual. Open ethnicity.

CONDUCTOR: Any gender. Young-ish. Relationship status unknown. Mostly business, a little sarcastic. Open ethnicity.

CRAZY PERSON: Any gender. Older. Relationship status unknown. She likes to make jokes even if no one else is laughing. Down on their luck, loud, and erratic. Open ethnicity.

*Conductor and Crazy Person can be played by the same actor if both shoes fit.

Compensation: $100 stipend + one meal

Time Commitment:

Rehearsal dates: June 11 through June 13 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm each day.
