Description:

mprov Playhouse is seeking actors for its Summer touring production, Knights of the Group Project - a new twist on the Arthurian legends of old as reimagined by Zack Peercy, and directed by Oskar Westbridge.

"Hear ye, hear ye, we bring tidings of adventures in Camelot! Know you the Epic Arthurian Legends, and the tales of the Knights therein? Really? Good, because we're gonna need all the help we can get to save this group project... Come forth and join us on this epic and difficult quest: finding a way to cram all of our homework in at, like, the very last second, because it's due tomorrow and we definitely have no time to lose... Magic and Mischief abound in this playful, high-flying, devised summer show for the whole family!"

Note from the Playwright:
This play was written with some of my favorite kid-shows in mind - Recess, Hey Arnold!, Rugrats, and The Fairly OddParents. Ensemble shows that had strong, bold characters that met and defied expectations. Kids who were opinionated, kind, complex, and human. Stories that never talked down to a younger audience. Thus, we begin:

Thursday. 11:45AM. Mrs. Spadchuck's 5th Period English Class. A ragtag group of students are tasked with presenting a group project on Arthurian Legends. The only thing standing in their way is themselves. They're doomed. Combining games, role-playing, music, and more, this play is all about the chaos of the collaborative process! Oh, and King Arthur too.

CASTING
Our touring shows feature casts that are small but mighty - this production will feature a lot of character doubling, ensemble work, and transformation of Arthurian scale, but ultimately centers around the voices of five main student archetypes:

Heavy Metal Freak

DND Nerd

Jock Dude Bro

Movie Geek

History Dweeb (King Arthur, in disguise)

As such, we intend to cast an ensemble of five actors, as well as a rotating Swing (with guaranteed performance). In our Audition Form, you will have the opportunity to list all roles you wish to be considered for: please include any/all characters you feel connected to / willing to portray, regardless of any implied gender identity in the character descriptions above.

Improv Playhouse is committed to diversity and equal employment opportunities designed to promote a positive model of inclusion. As such, Improv Playhouse encourages performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, as well as performers with disabilities, to submit.

PAY RATE
All actors will receive a $100 rehearsal stipend, as well as an additional $40 per performance.* Travel stipends may also be provided.

*The number of shows will depend on demand and availability, though bookings are already filling our calendar!
