Description:

Open auditions will be held for THE 39 STEPS, based on the movie by Alfred Hitchcock, adapted by Patrick Barlow from the novel John Buchan on October 22, 23 and 25 from 6:30 -8:30 at the Barnstable Comedy Club located at 3171 Main Street in Barnstable Village. Director Corrine Cameron seeks a cast of four for this hilarious comedy thriller; One 20’s - 50’s. He/him or they/them male identifying character of any race or ethnicity. One 20’s - 50’s. She/her or they/them female identifying character of any race or ethnicity and two actors who play the roles of the clowns, any age, gender, race, or ethnicity. Character descriptions are may be viewed online at BarnstableComedyClub.org.

Actors should plan to be able to show an English dialect of your choice and to prepare a 1-2 minute comedic monologue that will highlight the character(s) you are auditioning for. Familiarity with the play and the characters is a plus. Also be prepared to read from the script if needed. Perusal scripts are currently available at the Hyannis Public Library and Sturgis Library. Rehearsals will begin after November 5th. Production dates are slated for the first three weekends in January 2024.


Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps, a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! This two-time Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of four), an onstage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers, and some good old-fashioned romance.
