Description:

Eclectic Full Contact Theatre is now accepting submissions for their upcoming world premiere production of "The Wonder" by Maggie Lou Rader and directed by Gaby Labotka, running 4/21-5/13 at The Edge Theatre, 5451 N Broadway.

The Wonder is inspired by the first documented case of spiritual possession in America. Mary Roff's unearthly illness turns her family and the town of Watseka, Illinois upside down, that is, until Lurancy Vennum follows in her footsteps. The Wonder is a journey of hope, loss, undying familial love, and healing beyond the bounds of this world. Also, it's a ghost story. An American Midwest Gothic ghost story for mothers and daughters.

"Content Advisory: This play and some of the sides contain mentions and/or depictions of blood, seizure, self-mutilation, suicide, and miscarriage."

A note about characters-the following character pronouns reflect the character as written, but not necessarily the way the characters will be cast. Actors of all gender identities are encouraged to audition for whichever character(s) speaks to you. In the words of director Gaby Labotka, "I encourage and celebrate gender f@$#ery"

Also, while "The Wonder" is based on actual people, specified identities or casting requirements are not explicitly written into the characterizations. EFCT is committed to casting that reflects the world we live in and the community we are a part of. Therefore, BIPOC, AAPI, Latine actors, actors of all gender identities, abilities, and body types are invited to audition for any character.

Mary and Ann do sing in the play, but we do not need to see you sing at the audition.
