Edge of the Wood Theatre, located in Chicago's Edgebrook neighborhood on the northwest side, announces auditions for Light Up the Sky by Moss Hart on Saturday, January 7 from 2-5pm and Monday, January 9 from 7-9pm. Auditions will be held in the theatre space at the Edgebrook Community Church, 6736 N Loleta Avenue, Chicago. Seeking actors of all races and ethnicities, gender and sexual identities, ages, and body types for the following roles:
MISS LOWELL: 20s-30s, an author, ghost-writing the leading lady's memoir
FRANCES BLACK: 30s-50s, wife of the producer, "her vitality something fearful"
IRENE LIVINGSTON: 20s-40s, the leading lady, exudes "that ineffable essence of a great star of the stage"
OWEN TURNER: 40s-50s, playwright, soft-spoken, urbane
PETER SLOAN: 30s, playwright, "diffident, shy, with the brooding, deep-set eyes of a poet"
SIDNEY BLACK: 40s-50s, producer, "a blazing dynamo of lightning blue sparks"
TYLER RAYBURN: 20s-40s, husband of the leading lady, works on Wall Street
ENSEMBLE: 20s-50s, two actors to play assorted roles (masseuse, Shriners, cop, and William H. Gallegher), as well as understudy select roles.
The roles of Stella Livingston and Carleton Fitzgerald are cast.
Pay rate: $200 stipend for principal actors, $150 stipend for understudies (with guaranteed performance)
First rehearsal is February 6. Rehearsals run Monday-Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons. The show runs March 24-April 8 (8-9 performances).
Prepare a comedic monologue, no more than 90 seconds. If possible, bring a picture and resume to the audition.
