Description:
The Factory Theater is currently seeking understudies for their production of The Kelly Girls by Shannon O'Neill and directed by Spenser Davis. Set in 1960s Belfast, The Kelly Girls is an Irish drama that centers around two sisters, Fianna and Regan Kelly, who find themselves right in the middle of the revolution. As the Troubles descend on Ireland, these young women are forced to decide just how much they're willing to sacrifice for their homeland. For all understudies, there will be at least one guaranteed performance.
In reference to the character descriptions below-most characters we encounter currently are in the binary and are written with he/him or she/her pronouns however our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they are most interested in being seen for.
We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities. In addition, we will list disabilities when specific to a character but are otherwise seeking actors with disabilities as well as non-disabled actors for all roles.
Characters:
Fianna Kelly (late 20s-early 30s)- Oldest daughter in the Kelly family, a born leader and protector. Although she and her sister strongly believe in fighting for a united Ireland, Fianna grows increasingly conflicted with the brutality of this war.
Dierdre Kelly (40s-50s)- Stoic matriarch of the Kelly family, a member of the IRA in her youth. She is abundantly committed to her family and brooks no disrespect from others.
Gerry Adams (40s-50s)- Irish Republican activist and subsequent politician. Denny/Oscar (mid 20s-early 30s)- Members of one of the IRA's most deadly units, the Unknowns. Loyal, witty and wildly committed to fighting for the "cause".
Aiofe Connolly (late 30s-40s)- Willful, single Belfast mother of 10 children, struggles to keep food on the table. Accused by the IRA of selling secrets to the British Army for money.
