Description:

Red Theater is thrilled to announce auditions for our winter 2023 debut production of Mora V. Harris' INDOOR CATS, directed by co-Artistic Director Wyatt Kent. Performances will run at The Edge Off Broadway, 1133 W Catalpa Ave, Chicago, IL 60640.

Indoor Cats is a character driven comedy about finding meaning at the end of the world.

Stipend: $350

Please note: Portions of the rehearsal and production process for Indoor Cats will be filmed for an upcoming documentary film project about storefront theater in Chicago. Your participation in Indoor Cats will require your consent to be filmed for this project.

Characters:
*Please note that pronouns listed are for the characters only and do not explicitly reflect the actors we are seeking for each role.*

JULES: Mid-20s, she/her/hers, multi-media stop motion video artist with a prickly exterior and marshmallowy center. Don't call her cute.

PANDA: Like 5 in human years, gender irrelevant, a black and white cat. Very cute, but this is also irrelevant.

WILLA: Early 30s, she/her/hers, Jules' older sister, 6 months pregnant at the start of the play, a teacher ready for summer vacation, genuinely doing her best all the damn time and it's exhausting.

PETE: Late 30s, he/him/his, nature photographer/videographer, community college instructor, and Philly-accented free-spirit.

We are also seeking understudies for all roles.

Time Commitment:

In-person callbacks (evening): December 1
Table Work: Week of December 11th.
Rehearsals: Return 1/7, with full schedule to be adjusted according to actor availability
Opening Night: Fri Feb 17
Performance Run: Feb 17 - March 12

Material To Prepare:

A self-tape of a one-minute contemporary monologue
A PDF of your headshot and resume
Your availability for the callback date listed below and willingness to understudy.
