Theatre L'Acadie is seeking director applications and actor submissions for an upcoming staged reading event, which will make up the sixth iteration of our In Bloom New Works Series.
The In Bloom series exists to highlight early-career BIPOC, LGBTQ+, or non-binary artists through intentional script selection, casting, and direction.
ACTING SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Please send a video submission, showcasing a 60-90-second contemporary piece of the actor's choosing. This does not need to be a custom recording. Please state in your submission email body your name, pronouns, and vaccination status. DIRECTOR SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Theatre L'Acadie is seeking email submissions from Black directors for the staged reading of Brandon Wright's Strange Fruit. Please state in the body of your email your name, pronouns, and vaccination status. Please also include a resume. A brief virtual interview may take place prior to hire. *Please note that only fully vaccinated individuals will be considered for this project, as our goal is to hold these readings in person (federal and local safety guidelines permitting).
COMPENSATION:
Actors will be paid a base $25 stipend. All actor payments will be received upon the conclusion of the staged reading. Additionally, profits from patron "tips" will be divided among the artists involved.
Directors will be paid a $50 stipend. Director payments will be received upon the conclusion of the staged reading. Additionally, profits from patron "tips" will be divided among the artists involved.

Strange Fruit

Five residents of a quiet suburb bear witness to a violent hate crime. Can they figure out Whodunit before they all get the noose?
Characters:
Jared, a white 30-40 year old male
Angela, a white 30-40 year old female
Mary, a white 22 year old female
Milo, a white 22 year old male
Carol, an older white woman
Andre, a teenage black male (also reads stage directions)
Theatre L'Acadie will produce the below-listed work for a one-day-only staged reading (1 performance), with a maximum of two (2) maximum four-hour (4hr) rehearsals prior to the staged reading being presented to the public. The initial rehearsal has the possibility of being held virtually.
