Project Title | Think Fast, Jordan Chase! |
Description:
Filament Theatre is now accepting auditions for its upcoming production of a new play, Think Fast, Jordan Chase! written by Sonia Goldberg and directed by Jamal Howard. Filament is seeking submissions for Ryan (he/him or she/her, ambulatory mobility disability, BIPOC preferred - open to all races).
Think Fast, Jordan Chase! Is a choose-your-own-adventure play that travels through time and space. We follow Jordan as she navigates the difficulties of making a decision that might negatively affect her relationship with her best friend, Mahari, and a decision that may harm the new student, Ryan.
With a call for help to the audience and her mystical Grandma Nicky, Jordan makes the decision that is right for her. By transporting Jordan to space, a deserted beach, or a fantasy land Grandma Nicky sets Jordan on a journey to get to the root of the problem between Mahari and Ryan.
Characters:
Ryan (he/him or she/her, ambulatory mobility disability, BIPOC preferred - open to all races) is the new kid in school, a well-meaning kid who has developed a tough skin against his peers bullying him because of his disability and face scar. Even though school is exhausting for Ryan, he is not afraid to meet his bully's degrading words with his own brand of callousness. In another world Ryan is a ruler in his own right as Mahari is in theirs.
Ryan is an ambulatory mobility disabled person. We are only accepting submissions from folks who have a disability that affects their walking. This role also calls for someone who is comfortable performing a sword fight.
Archetypes: The Helper, The Innocent, The Orphan
Mahari - Understudy (they/them, BIPOC) is best friends with Jordan - the sour to her sweet. They call the shots and they're the boss to their peers. Though Mahari appears to be self-assured, they're struggling with the feeling of betrayal and distrust in others. As a result of their distrust, they can often be brutish and defensive.
Mahari is non-binary. We are only accepting from folks who are non-binary. This role also calls for someone who is comfortable playing basketball on stage (dribbling, passing, stealing). This role also calls for someone who is comfortable performing a sword fight.
