Description:
Possibilities Theatre Company is seeking actors to submit audition self-tapes for an upcoming Workshopped Production of ON EITHER SIDE OF ALL THE LATE UNPLEASANTNESS by k.l.
PTC's workshops include a truncated rehearsal process with a director and the playwright, minimal tech elements, and three Work-in-Progress performances and talkback sessions. Submissions are due October 16th at 11:59pm. Callbacks will be October 23rd.
Play Synopsis: Clay County, Missouri, 1860. Civil war is brewing in the United States, and the nation's turmoil has spread to the Pearson household. Eddie, an abolitionist, is firmly on the side of the Union; his brother Charlie sympathizes with the position of the southern states. As pressures mount inside and outside the home, the brothers feel they have no choice but to join the fight-on opposite sides. Their decision to go to war permanently alters the fabric of the family, and everyone--including the family's two slaves--has to face the consequences. Possibilities Theatre Company aims to amplify voices that have historically been silenced by giving people a stage on which to tell their stories authentically. We are a community of artists who take risks and act with love. We strongly welcome performers of varying sizes, abilities, gender-expressions and identities, and racial and ethnic-identities to submit.
Production Team:
Director: Ebby Offord (she/they)
Playwright: kl (they/she)
Casting Director: Kevin Blair (he/him)
Producer: Melody DeRogatis (she/they)
Pay: Yes, 5% of Ticket Sales
Roles Available:
POP (he/him) - a white man in his early 50s, a good father, a half-decent owner of people, whose political convictions sometimes match his actions and sometimes do not.
MA (she/her) - a white woman in her late 40s, the traditional kind, a product of her time, whose life is perfectly fine, who is more interested in her quilting than in anything else.
EDDIE PEARSON (he/him) - a white man in his twenties, a first-born son, smart, stubborn, and determined.
CHARLIE PEARSON (he/him) - a white man in his twenties, a younger son who acts like a younger son, whose convictions are still to be determined, who sometimes gets it wrong.
DAVID, also plays NEGRO SOLDIER (he/him) - a Black man in his late 20s, long-suffering and patient, for Sylvia's sake and no one else's. Wouldn't have much to say even if someone bothered to ask, which they don't.
SYLVIA (she/her) - a Black woman, early-to-mid 20s, a firestarter in every sense, but not in every circumstance. Certainly not here, not now. Such a good girl, never has to be reminded to smile.
PEARSON COUSIN/TELEGRAPH OP./CONFEDERATE SOLDIER/UNION SOLDIER/SGT. TRENT/UNION NOTIFIER (he/him) - all played by one actor, all of them white men between the ages of 25-55, each of them a product of the war, probably worse off for it.
Rehearsals start on October 28th, and will be 3 days a week, mainly Friday, Saturday, Sundays. (For more specific rehearsal info, please go to the Google Form Link).
