The Beverly Arts Center announces auditions for its upcoming professional, non-equity production of "The Christmas Schooner" with performance dates December 8 - 11, 2022.
Based on the true story of the Rouse Simmons, a schooner ship which brought the first Christmas trees to Chicago by way of the treacherous winter waters of Lake Michigan, this story of love, faith, and family is bound to become a new holiday tradition for Southside audiences.

CHILDREN'S ENSEMBLE:
There will be open auditions for the Children's Ensemble at the Beverly Arts Center from 7 - 8pm on Tuesday, October 11 and Wednesday, October 12th. Please sign up for an appointment below. Up to 3 names may sign up for an audition slot.
Seeking exceptional singing actors for all roles.
Peter Stossel - Baritone. The quintessential husband, father, and son. He loves his family very much. Has a strong sense of obligation to family and tradition (paid role)
Alma Stossel Mezzo-Soprano. Peter's wife and Karl's mother. She is motherly and caring but very strong, and very proud to now call herself an American. She holds down the house while her husband is at sea. (paid role)
Gustav Stossel - Baritone. Peter's father. He, too, is proud to be part of the American landscape, but does not want to forget where he came from. Wise, calm and kind but quite stubborn. (paid role)
Karl Stossel - age 9 Seeking a male actor ages, 7-13 An adventurous and curious boy who admires his grandfather and father greatly and wants to grow up to be a sailor. He is a proud boy, but not without a certain sensitivity, excellent singer and actor. (paid role)
Karl Stossel - age 15 seeking male actors between the ages of 12-18, Now on the verge of becoming a man, Karl is stronger and more mature. Excellent singer and actor. (paid role)
Oskar: Baritenor. A hotheaded, know-it-all sailor with a big heart. (paid role)
Rudy Baritenor. The goofier of the two sailors between himself and Oskar. Like Oskar, he deeply respects Captain Stossel. Loves food and has a biting sarcasm. (paid role)
Steve Baritone. Perhaps the most mature and serious of Captain Stossel's three right-hand men. Has a deep respect for Peter and would probably be second in line to captain the schooner. (paid role)
STORYTELLERS An ensemble of exceptional singer/actors who play various characters throughout the story. (paid roles)
CHILDREN'S ENSEMBLE: An ensemble of young performers between the ages of 7 and 14. Charismatic personalities and strong solo voices (unpaid roles)

Pay: $350
The show will rehearse:
Saturdays: 12noon - 5pm
Mondays: 7pm - 10pm
Wednesdays: 7pm - 10pm
Thursdays: 7pm - 10pm
A detailed rehearsal schedule will be provided at auditions.

PRINCIPALS/ADULT ENSEMBLE: Please bring a 32 bar cut of a traditional music theatre song for your audition. You must provide sheet music in your desired key and you may sing from the show if you choose. An accompanist will be provided. No recordings or a capella auditions. Actors may be asked to read sides from the script.
CHILDREN'S ENSEMBLE: Please bring a 32 bar cut of an accompanied traditional holiday song or hymn with sheet music in your desired key.
CALLBACKS
Callbacks will be held by invitation on Saturday, October 15th between 11 and 3pm. Those invited for a callback may be asked to prepare material from the show, and should be prepared for dance/movement call.
