Breakdown:
Role Name | Gender | Ethnicity | Age Range | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|
Sam Whitaker | 0 | Caucasian | 11-14 | Sam Whitaker (Male or Female 9 – 11 years old) – LEAD: Sam is an intelligent 10-year-old with adorable physical features. He/she is small for his/her age and hangs out on the fringe of a group of bullies that oftentimes take advantage of Sam. Sam wants to fit in, and truly believes these bullies are his/her friends. With his father fighting overseas and his mother picking up extra shifts to pay the bills Sam seeks comfort and friendship. (NOTE: We are auditioning both male and females for the protagonist role of Sam.) |
Frank Cunningham | Male | Caucasian | 11-14 | Frank Cunningham (Male approx 15 years old) - LEAD: Frank is a gangly boy with a large stature, kind heart, and reserved personality. There is something unique about Frank’s physical appearance, and because of that, the younger kids in the neighborhood oftentimes taunt him, referring to him as “Frankenstein” or “freak”. He is constantly bullied but never seems to stand up for himself. A loner who spends most of his time caring for his injured father returned from the war, Frank relishes his new friendship with Sam who teaches him to stand up for himself. (NOTE: Frank’s exact physical appearance is still TBD and will depend on the natural characteristics and abilities of the actor cast in the role. Distinctive facial or physical features are a plus for this role, but additional makeup and prosthetics may be used to complement the look. Actor must be able and willing to sit for life cast molding process. Ability to control or contort posture is also helpful.) |
Carl | Male | Caucasian | 11-14 | Carl (Male 10-12 years old) – SUPPORTING: Carl is a tough guy and popular amongst the kids in the neighborhood. He is the charismatic but manipulative type with a bit of a foul mouth. Although he treats Sam as a friend when they are alone, Carl oftentimes belittles and even bullies Sam when they are in a group of people, all for the sake of boosting his own image. |
Mr. Cunningham | Male | Caucasian | 31-40 | Mr. Cunningham (Male 35-45) – SUPPORTING: Frank’s father is a gruff and large man that was discharged from the war after acquiring an injury from a shrapnel blast, leaving his face scarred for life. He is an intolerant man, and is both physically, and verbally abusive to his son, Frank. He doesn’t speak much, but when he does, his words are laden with unexplained bitterness and resentment. |
Vera Whitaker | Female | Caucasian | 31-40 | Vera Whitaker (Female 35-45) – SUPPORTING: Sam’s mother is worn but hard working-class woman. She spends most of her time at the local sawmill, picking up additional shifts to pay the bills while her husband is away at war. As a result, she is barely home to be the mother she wants to be and that Sam needs her to be. |
