Strawdog Theatre Company announces auditions for our upcoming production of THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, written by Oscar Wilde, directed by Elizabeth Swanson.
This production will be a queer retelling of this classic play with a focus on exploring class, privilege, and queer joy. Seeking non-AEA actors of all backgrounds for principal and understudy positions, and strongly encourage performers of all ethnicities, ages, sizes, genders, and abilities to submit. Please submit for any role you feel most drawn to auditioning for!
All persons hired for this project must be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Pay rate: $750 for principal actors and $750 for the understudies.
ROLES
Jack Worthing - 20's-30's. Any ethnicity. Masc, foppish, slouchy.
Algernon Moncrieff - 20's-30's. Any ethnicity. Androgynus or masc, quick-witted.
Gwendolyn Fairfax - 20's-30's. Any ethnicity. Femme, snobby, privileged.
Cecily Cardew - early 20's. Any ethnicity. Femme, sweet, smarter than she presents.
Lady Bracknell - 40's+. Any ethnicity. Drag queen energy, powerful matriarch.
Miss Prism - 40's+. Any ethnicity. Femme, prissy, high moral character.
Dr. Chasuble - 40's+. Any ethnicity. Masc, nervous, tender-hearted.
Merriman/Lane - Any age. Any ethnicity. The Butler. Side-eyeing all of the shenanigans. Strong clowning skills required.
Rehearsal - April 3 to May 7, 2023. 5 days a week.
Tech - May 8 to May 21, 2023. 5 days a week.
Opening - May 22, 2023
Run - May 23 to July 1, 2023. Performances on Thurs-Sat evenings, Sun matinees
Understudy Performance - June 21, 2023
Closing - July 1, 2023
