“Look Twice” is a film about twelve year old Chris. Chris is someone we have all heard about on the news, from friends, or in a news article. He is the poor kid, having grown up without a Dad and an addict for a Mom. The young boy that is the target of programs like Head Start and No Child Left Behind, and countless gang-prevention organizations. But all to often, once we establish something, we forget about it, or in Chris’ case, them.
Our film aims to remind people to ‘look twice’ at the youth we are affecting with cuts to recreational programs and sports. Chris doesn’t want to be involved in drugs or gangs or crime, but he is a product of an unloving environment. He’s a twelve year old in a living hell – he’s already become the head of the house, dealing with a toddler sibling and a violent and sick mother. After finding himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, Chris is forced to prove his loyalty to his trailer park’s drug gang. Had someone been there to intervene, an adult that cares or a protective parent, Chris’ story could’ve end differently. But unfortunately, this is not a reality in an America where poverty is ever expanding.
|Role Name||Gender||Ethnicity||Age Range||Description|
|T.J.||Male||African American||11-14||T.j. is the high energy, oblivious best friend to Chris, our films' hero. T.j. s a lead - he is everything Chris is not, but a good representation of out of control kids with no supervision. Although he is only 11 years old, he is already experimenting with weed and crime. He doesn't think of it as being bad though, just as something to do in his boring trailer park neighborhood. Spends most of his time oln his bike exploring and causing trouble.|
|Andre||Male||African American||25-30||Andre is the only caring adult figure in Chris' life. Angie, Chris younger half sister, is Andre's daughter. He's only around because of Angie, but when he's around he does his best to give Chris attention and affection and keep him safe from the local gang's influence. Strong, athletic and intelligent, he is the ideal father figure/role model.|
