The Media Theatre is seeking Equity and Non-Equity submissions for specific roles for their 2022 production of RENT. Auditions will be held in-person on site at The Media Theatre on Saturday, July 30 at 12:00pm. Please see the breakdown below for information on what is available. Local housing is not available for this production. If you attended our prior Season Auditions, you do not need to audition for this call.

MARIA RAINER (Reads 21-35) (Female-identifying) (C4-B5)
A spirited postulant at Nonnberg Abbey. She is warm and compassionate – a lover of music who doesn't think
twice about speaking her mind. Nearing the end of her novitiate,she is sent to serve as governess to the seven
children of Captain von Trapp.

CAPTAIN von TRAPP (Reads 35-55) (Male-identifying) (F#2-E4)
A distinguished, retired Naval Lieutenant Commander whose stern,regimented disposition represses a deep
sadness from the loss of his wife.

MAX DETWEILER (Reads mid-thirties and older) (Male-identifying) (Any ethnicity) (C3-F4)
Charming and vital; a man of sophistication who enjoys the good life; true and loyal friend to the von Trapp
family.

MOTHER ABBESS (Reads 40 and older) (Female-identifying)(B3-F#5)
The leader and superior of Nonnberg Abbey, Mother Abbess sees the novices through the process of becoming
a nun, guiding and inspiring them as they weigh their decision. Firm and authoritative, but also warm and
compassionate.

LIESL von TRAPP (Reads late teens) (Actor must be over the age of 18) (Female-identifying)(B3-E5)
Liesl is at that awkward age between childhood and adulthood and assumes a maternal role with her younger
siblings. She is, however,still naïve and in need of her own guidance.

ROLF GRUBER (Reads late teens) (Actor must be over the age of 18) (Male-identifying) (C3-G4)
Rolf is a delivery boy who is interested in Liesl. As an impressionable teen, he is aware of the growing political
tension and is caught between his affection for Liesl and a need to prove his manhood.

 

ELSA SCHRAEDER: (Reads twenties-forties) (Female-identifying)

A baroness of taste and elegance, sophisticated, dignified and mature

 

SISTER BERTHE, SISTER SOPHIA, SISTER MARGARETTA, OTHER NUNS (Reads twenties and older) (Female-identifying) 

Nuns of the Abbey. Varying in personalities from demanding, kind, understanding and concerned.
