Improv Playhouse is seeking actors for its season-long, original touring production of Monologue Mixtape!
From the Director:
"In the back of the closet, in the darkest corner, on the tallest shelf, lies a cardboard box filled with memorabilia we have packed away: dusty snow globes and trinkets of vacations past, our first cell-phone and our last report card, old love letters and worn through socks. But some things in this box are less tangible: the taste of a gum eye-ball from a lopsided popsicle, the way it feels to pump your legs on a swing, the sadness of losing a first pet, or the happiness of losing your first tooth, and that horrible (yet well deserved) bellyache that comes from laughing at a joke before you tell the punchline.
In Monologue Mixtape, we will explore the stories tucked away in these boxes, finding characters in each item we unpack; and with the help of our very own youth audience, these objects will transform from memorabilia to monologues to memories anew!"
In this adventure, actors will embody an ever-changing cast of characters as students devise original, found-object based monologues; the fun doesn't stop there, though, as these original characters are mixed into not-so-original stories, bringing their found-object flair to familiar fairytales and unpacking a zany, never-before-seen exploration into adaptation!
CASTING BREAKDOWN
This ensemble will consist of five energized, improv-enthused, chaotically quirky actors with a penchant for big personality and big physicality! Since this role operates in tandem with classroom environments, a taste for teaching-artistry is also appreciated, though existing experience isn't required!
Pay:
All actors will receive a $100 rehearsal stipend, as well as an additional $40 per performance.* Travel stipends may also be provided.
*The number of shows will depend on demand and availability, though we expect to have a busy season.
Touring performances will take place across Chicagoland (carpool potentially available). Rehearsals will take place at About Face Theatre Offices (Chicago, IL).
Actors will be contracted from mid-September (2022) - August (2023) with a four-week rehearsal-process beginning September 14th. For touring performances, actors must have at least two morning/midday availabilities a week. These rehearsals and performances will be scheduled around actor availability.
