A short contemporary monologue and 32 bars of a classic MT song or jazz standard. We will provide a bluetooth speaker and keyboard (accompanist is not provided). Please feel free and accompany yourself.

Lavender Life will be performed in the 2019 Philly Fringe Festival

“Lavender Life” is a musical cabaret centered around the struggles of the LGBTQ+ community in the 1930’s directed by Molly Jo Gifford and music directed by Kylie Westerbeck. Through the parallel of history and the rise of fascism/divided government with the growing safety concerns for those who identity as a minority, Lavender Life will explore what it means to find strength in community in the face of a weakened nation. We will also be exploring themes like:

• What does it mean to truly support other people?

• What does it mean to be an ally?

• What does it mean to come together in times of confusion and difference? And, how do we generate awareness and conversation?

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

Adrianne McNulty: 25-40, any ethnicity, confident, well read writer. Rebellious for her time Adrianne is unapologetically intelligent and queer while in the Lavender Lounge. Rose Ellen’s love interest.

Rose Ellen: 25-40, any ethnicity, a wife wanting for community and an outlet for her fluid sexuality, she has finally found the courage to come the the Lavender Lounge. Adrianne’s love interest.

Dick: 30-45, any ethnicity, A kind, confused, and worried husband follows his wife Rose Ellen to the Lavender Lounge and finds himself lost in their community himself.

Kit Andrews: 30-60, any ethnicity, A socialite and ally Kit has been supporting the Lavender Lounge for years.

Butch: 30-60, any ethnicity, loveable, wise beyond his time Butch is the owner of the Lavender Lounge. Must be enthusiastic about drag.

Tiffany Jewel: 18-30, any ethnicity, A cocktail waitress and constant entertainer at the Lavender Lounge, Tiffany encaptures the spirit of our crew.

Scarlett St. Sry: 25-40, any ethnicity, rough around the edges Scarlett finds the only kindness she knows at the lounge and encaptures the heart of Dick by the nights end.
