Description:
Brown Paper Box Co. is holding auditions for Prodigy: A Modern Family Portrait by Anna Schutz, directed by Christina Casano.
Danielle and Emily's 4-year-old daughter, Macie, shows a promising artistic gift. When gallery owner Rebecca convinces the couple to start displaying and selling Macie's paintings, playtime starts to get serious. Is Macie a prodigy, or just a kid who likes to paint? Can Danielle and Emily's marriage weather Macie's newfound fame? The characters grapple with these and other questions as they traverse the complicated world of old flames, private elementary schools, and modern art.
Auditions:
Video submissions through April 24, 2020. We will receive self-tape on a rolling basis until May 1, 2020.
Callbacks:
You will hear back from us regarding callbacks by EOD April 27, 2020. At the moment, we are hoping to conduct in-person callbacks some time between May 2 - 4, 2020. If shelter-in-place order is extended, we will get in touch to plan Zoom callbacks.
We are mindful of the current shelter-in-place order and will work to adjust rehearsals in case it is extended beyond April 30, 2020.
Characters:
As a proud participant of The Ghostlight Project, BPBCo. is committed "to stand for and protect the values of inclusion, participation, and compassion for everyone--regardless of race, class, religion, country of origin, immigration status, (dis)ability, gender identity, or sexual orientation." Please feel free to audition for any character you feel comfortable playing.
DANIELLE - female, woman of color, 30s, a painter, married to Emily, Macie's mom
REBECCA - female, open to all ethnicities, 30s, a gallery owner, Danielle's high school friend, unattached
EMILY (role has been precast, but we are hiring an understudy) - female, open to all ethnicities, 30s, an accountant, married to Danielle, Macie's mom
While actors don't need to be trained singers, they need to be comfortable singing on stage. We encourage women of all body types to submit.
Pay: Actor pay $500. Understudy $250 + 1 guaranteed performance
