Idle Muse Theatre Company is seeking submissions for IN THE NEXT ROOM (OR THE VIBRATOR PLAY), which will be performed at The Edge Off Broadway Theater in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago.

1880s New York, The Gilded Age of America. The second Industrial Revolution has ignited a desire to change the fabric of daily life. When her physician husband creates a unique piece of machinery to massage the growing affliction of "female hysteria," Catherine Givings embarks on some new discoveries of her own. As Dr. Givings garners the attention of new patients, Catherine finds her own attention inexplicably drawn to what occurs "in the next room" and what it means for her. In this intimate and humorous journey of self-examination and sexuality, human connection is not only a climax, but a vital part of life itself.

Special Note:
All roles require depicting varying forms of intimacy. Please consider/be true to your own boundaries when auditioning. When called back for the role, you will be informed of the specific intimacy that role will require. The production will have an Intimacy Director

Roles Available:

CATHERINE GIVINGS: Female, late twenties, married to Dr. Givings.

DR. GIVINGS: Male, forties, a specialist in gynecological and hysterical disorders.
SABRINA DALDRY: Female, early thirties, a patient.

MR. DALDRY: Male, Sabrina's husband, forties or fifties.

ANNIE: Female, late thirties, midwife assistant to Dr. Givings.

ELIZABETH: Female, early thirties, wet nurse. African-American.

LEO IRVING: Male, twenties or thirties, a patient, an artist.
