Description:
Black Swan – Director’s Workshop Exercise at UT Austin
3-5 minutes projected length scene presented before class audience
The story:
• A dance company is putting on a ballet production. Nina, a contract ballerina with the company, wishes to ascertain the part of the white and black swan in the upcoming production. Nina approaches the company’s manager, Leroy, in hopes of convincing him that she is worthy of the part and should dance on behalf of the company in the lead role.
I am looking actors to fill these two protagonist positions:
NINA, female, Late Teens – Early 30s, any ethnicity
• Nina is a ballerina in a dance company. She has striven her entire life to perfecting her ballet form and technique. Life without ballet is something completely unknown to her. To play the part of the white and black swan would be the ideological peak of her entire career. The part would mean displaying divine performance skills coupled with near physical perfection.
LEROY, male, 20s-40s, any ethnicity
• Leroy is the manager of a dance company. He is strong willed and highly demanding of his performers. However, he is also entranced by their physicality and often attempts to lure them into becoming his “personal” dancers almost as if they were his playdolls, and he is their master. When he gets bored of one girl, he moves on to the next. Ballerinas wishing to be praised by him are nearly always forced to play his sexual game.
.
Non-Paid – DVD copy/credit/food included
