Countess Dracula by Otherworld Theatre Company
Auditions are on July 15th from 7-10 pm and callbacks are scheduled for July 17th.

Countess Dracula will run in fall 2019. The play is an original adaptation by resident playwright Nick Izzo and co-adapted by Am'Ber D. Montgomery. In this adaptation, the titular character is re-imagined as a feminist icon. The play reassess Dracula's power, status, and threat against the living with a spectacular display of gore. The show runs September 28th through November 2nd and pays a $90 stipend.

We are looking for several performers of color and one white man. Please bring your headshot, resume and prepare a one minute heightened language monologue (non Shakespearean).

All the actors (except Dracula) will be playing multiple characters and will all be required to do a bit of fighting.

Characters are as follows...

1 AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN TO PLAY:
MADAM DRACULA: Elegant and strong in every way. Ruthless with her enemies, fiercely protective of her community, maternal, calculating, a warrior, commands and demands respect. Those who do not show her due respect pay dearly. For the bulk of the play she is a New Orleans granddame, in flashbacks she is a West African warrior.

1 AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN TO PLAY:
MINA MURRAY: A young school teacher/activist in New York, born in the South, is stronger than she thinks she is, Loves Lucy but is engaged to Jonathon.

ADELINE: One of Dracula's vampire brides from New Orleans, headstrong and rebellious

PETER HAWKINS: Jonathon Harker's employer

OLD WOMAN #1: A New Orleans busybody who knows everything there is to know about Dracula.

1 AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN TO PLAY:
LUCY WESTERNA: Mina's roommate and best friend since childhood, loves Mina and doesn't give a damn about anything else, born in the south, moved to New York with Mina.

LUELLA: One of Dracula's vampire brides from New Orleans, the big sister of the trio

OLD WOMAN #2: A New Orleans busybody who knows everything there is to know about Dracula.

1 AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN TO PLAY:
HANNAH: One of Dracula's vampire brides from New Orleans, innocent (for a vampire) and childlike

MADAM ANGELINA BATISTE: An old, elegant Voodoo Priestess, a respected pillar of her community and an old friend of Madam Dracula.

1 AFRICAN AMERICAN MAN TO PLAY:
JONATHON HARKER: A young and ambitious professional born and raised in New York. Engaged to Mina Murray. Falls under the spell of Dracula.

THE OSANBOSAM: A West African vampire. Charming, vicious, and gleefully malevolent.

1 WHITE MAN TO PLAY:
DOCTOR ABRAHAM VAN HELSING: An old vampire hunter from Hungary and member of the sacred Order of the Dragon. Cold and calculating and merciless.

ARTHUR HOLMWOOD: A wealthy New York industrialist who wish to buy up property in Carfax Village, predominantly black neighborhood, and force the residents out.

THE STEAMBOAT CAPTAIN: A bombastic southern "gentleman"
