Description:

Burned Bridge Filmworks is now casting for the short film Open City.

Summer in Detroit. The last days before school begins. As Derrick and his friends wander through strange, desolate new landscape of their hometown, they can talk of nothing but Shauna, the prettiest girl in school. They recall the conversations they've had with her, a friendly competition to win the affections of their collective dream girl. As they explore the dangerous, feral wilderness the city has reverted to, the boys make a grisly discovery that may shatter them forever.

Produced by Stephanie Holt, written by Robert K. Sims II and Tracey D. Sims, Open City marks the directorial debut of Ms. Sims, a 13-year veteran of the Michigan film and video production business, Ms. Sims is the co-writer of the feature film Annabelle & Bear, and a script supervisor on dozens of films, videos and commercials. Though Open City marks her directorial debut, the bar is set high. “These characters are real. They are survivors.”

The film is not just about capturing the loss of innocence, but also documenting a city where nature has begun to reclaim whole neighborhoods. For Derrick and his friends, the wild fields of Detroit are their playground, their backyard... their whole world. These children offer a completely different viewpoint of the city’s struggle. “Detroit has gone through so many changes and struggles in recent years,” Ms. Sims says. “I wanted to talk about that in a way that hasn’t been done before.”

Burned Bridge Filmworks is now on the search for non-union kids comfortable with improvisation to bring this story to life. Shooting will take place over two days towards the end of July/early August. No previous experience required.

A casting call for these roles will be held Thursday July 5th 2012 between 3:00 and 8:00pm at the Hazel Park Library in Hazel Park, Michigan. Please contact us at opencityfilm@gmail.com to reserve a time.
